I could not sit there and condone those remarks. When I raised my hand to speak and tell the group that Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life and no man comes to the Father except by Me,” I was told by the pastor, “Young lady you can’t judge.” I stayed in the training session only to bring the truth to my group, but it wasn’t long before I came out of that church.
There are groups on TV today who also want your money and I urge you to be careful about that. Some are enticing you to expect health and wealth if you support them. There are also some who say you must follow certain rituals to be saved or follow certain days and diets. Legalism and following rituals makes Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross not totally sufficient for salvation. But Jesus alone is all we need.
We do have to remember that there are some areas in the Bible that are not real clear, therefore, we must not be dogmatic about what we think is truth. What is not clear we are not to speculate. God wants us to grow in the knowledge of Jesus so we can discern more clearly the truth. That takes reading and studying the Bible. But when anyone preaches that Jesus is not God and that we have to work to gain our salvation we know the truth in not in them. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Eph. 2:8,9).
