"I am only one, but I am one. I can't do everything, but I can do something.  What I can do, I ought to do.  And what I ought to do, by the Grace of God.  I will do."  Anon.

Dear Friends,

The picture of the sunflower among the mum is a picture I took one summer.  It reminded me of the verse above.  We as Christians cannot do everything but we can do something. God will help us do what we ought to do for Him. I have been trying for most of my life to do whatever I could to give out God's Word.  Many times when we do that we stand alone.  But like the sunflower we should stand straight and tall for the Lord no matter what. His grace is sufficient!

I have taught the Bible for over 40 years and have been a Discussion Leader in Bible Study Fellowship for 18 years.  I have written many articles and curriculums for Union Gospel Press and other articles for Christian magazines. I also am presently teaching Bible studies at my church. My goal has always been to give out the Word of God in all its truth.

No matter what phase in life I am in, God has always given me something to do in a way of ministering to others.  Today I am writing the Tender Talks for my family, friends, shut-ins, the elderly and any one who wants a tender talk of encouragement.  So browse into the Tender Talks for your encouragement today. And don't forget to browse the Extra Tender Talks each month and the Kids Tender Talks.

Sincerely in Christ,  Joyce Felske

Do You Know?

1.    WHO JESUS IS.

He is God, the Son.

John 1:1,2  – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.”

John 1:14a – “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

2.   HOW HE WAS BORN.

Of a virgin, as prophesied in the Old Testament

Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign; Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

Luke 1:30,31  - “Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.  And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS”.

3.   WHY HE WAS BORN

Because of our sin and God’s love for us

Isaiah 59:2 – “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.”

Habakkuk 1:13a -  “You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and cannot look on wickedness.”

Isaiah 64:6 – “But we are all as an unclean things, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”

Jeremiah 17:9 – “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked who can know it?”

4.  WHY WE HAVE A SINFUL NATURE.

Because of man’s first disobedience to God’s command.

Genesis 2:16,17 – “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Romans 5:12 – “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”

5.   THE RESULT OF OUR SIN

We will die physically and spiritually.

Isaiah 13:11 – “And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.”

James 1:15 – “Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.”

Romans 6:23a – “For the wages of sin is death.”  Ezekiel 18:20a -  “The soul that sinneth, it shall die.”

6.    THE GREAT LOVE GOD HAS FOR THE WORLD

He sent His Son to take the punishment for our sin.

John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life, For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.”

Romans 5:9 – “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

7.    WHAT CHRIST’S DEATH MEANS

Jesus, the sinless Son of God, was the only one qualified to die for us.

God’s wrath toward sinners is satisfied through the death of Jesus = PROPITIATION

Jesus redeems us from sin, setting us free from its bondage by His death = REDEMPTION

God declares us righteous before Him and He sees our sins no more = JUSTIFICATION

Saved from the penalty of sin = Past

Romans 3:24,25a – “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: whom God has set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood.

Saved from the power of sin = Present

Romans 8:1a – “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.”

Saved from the presence of sin = Future

Romans 6:22 – “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

HOW TO BE RIGHT WITH GOD AND HAVE ETERNAL LIFE

Believe that Jesus is God’s Son and that He came into the world to save you from sin’s penalty of death by taking the penalty upon Himself.  Accept it by faith (believing it to be true in your life) and your sins will be forgiven and God will put Jesus’ righteousness upon you and will see you as righteous.  You can only gain eternal life if you have on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:1 – “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

John 3:37 – “He that believes on the Son has everlasting life, and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him.”                                                                        © Joyce Felske, 2000
